Journée j’achète un livre québécois, to support local businesses!
Celebrated by several bookstores across Quebec, August 12 marks the “Journée j’achète un livre québécois”. Considered the “Christmas for booksellers”, this day is the perfect opportunity to go to your favorite independent neighborhood or local bookstore to treat yourself with a Quebec book.
The “Journée j’achète un livre québécois”was born from a Facebook event created by Patrice Cazeault and Amélie Dubé to highlight Quebec’s authors and publishers.
Soon after this initiative was published on the internet, many booksellers and publishers followed and joined the movement, resulting in a real literary festival. Created in 2014, this celebration will be in its 8th edition this year.
After these eight years, great repercussions on the sales of Quebec books have been observed. In fact, the day boosted sales of Quebec publishers and booksellers considerably. For example, on August 12, 2017, bookstore sales increased by 390% according to Radio-Canada.
For the occasion, we are honoring the reference of the territory in terms of offer of French-language cultural products. We invite you to visit Renaud-Bray, to take full advantage of #August12 and contribute to local shopping.
